The Best Books I’ve Received As Gifts
Since the holiday shopping season is officially upon us and my last post was about bookish gifts, I’ve been thinking about some of my favorites I’ve received.
The Complete Tales and Poems of Winnie the Pooh
I’m pretty sure I’ve loved Winnie The Pooh for my entire life! I can’t remember exactly when my mom gave me this for Christmas, it was at least 15 years ago. I’ve dragged it along with me on countless moves, including a cross country one, and have had it visible on a bookshelf in every place I’ve lived. I get it out to page through occasionally whenI’m feeling low.
Shel Silverstein Box Set
Shel Silberstein’s work was my first introduction into the world of poetry, and has always held a special place in my bookish heart. This set was a gift from my ex-inlaws, meaning I’ve had it for close to 20 years. It was a thoughtful gift and while I’ve hung onto them because I adore the books, it’s nice to have a little reminder around of people who were once important in my life.
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
My husband gave me this last Christmas because he knew I really wanted it but have an aversion to paying full price for new books! It was one of the first books I read in 2017 and definitely one of the best. Earlier this year, I wrote a post dedicated entirely to the importance of this book!
The Psychopath Test by Jon Ronson
My husband gifted me this for my birthday several years ago. We had heard the author interviewed on NPR and I was incredibly intrigued. The fact that he remembered and sought out the book for me was really meaningingful and it was an introduction to an author I have followed ever since and really enjoy.
Cussword Coloring Book
A dear friend sent me this last year. It’s one of my favorite bookish gifts by far. Not only is it hilarious, but it suits me perfectly and made t clear my friend knows me well.
