Five Things Friday: January 22, 2021
This was another difficult week for me when it comes to finding things to be happy about. I learned of the deaths of two people I care about within two days of each other.
My heart feels like a wrung out sponge. I cried so much this week. Yet I also laughed and smiled a lot. Here’s a peek at what I was up to.
Something that made me happy this week:
This one seems pretty obvious! Watching Joe Biden and Kamala Harris be inaugurated was a joyful experience. I’m not only happy for them, but feel an overwhelming sense of relief that the previous administration is over.
Something I read this week:
This month I did my first ever Buddy Read with an Instagram friend. Jenna (who lives in the U.K.) and I read Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. It’s a powerful work of literary fiction that covers heavy issues of addiction, depression, grief, race and immigration. It’s set in the U.S. and it was cool to discuss these topics with someone who lives in a different country.
Something I did offline this week:
One morning when my heart was particularly sad, I left the house on my own (rare these days) and treated myself to a latte and fresh flowers. Since the pandemic hit, I struggle to find self care methods that are safe. Fresh flowers do it for me every time!
Something I’m grateful for this week:
My dog Charlie is back to his old self after having surgery last week. Plus I found out only one of the masses we removed was cancerous and it appears the doctor got all of it out!
Something I’m looking forward to:
More play off football this weekend, and taking out Charlie’s stitches so they aren’t bugging him anymore!
What are you grateful for this week?
