Five Things Friday September 18, 2020

Welcome to Five Things Friday, I hope this finds you safe and healthy. It seems like every week, a new disaster strikes our country. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s a struggle for me to write about all positive things without talking about the negative. Yet, that’s partly my intention with these posts.

So, occasionally I feel the need to state the obvious: I know many of my readers are suffering in a multitude of different ways right now. By not mentioning your crisis, I am not ignoring it. I’m hoping to distract you for a little while.

Here’s what I’ve been up to this week:

Something that made me happy this week.

Seeing Marigold finally use her little “apartment” even though it’s been in the house for weeks.

Something I read this week.

Yesterday, I finished The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi, and it was a perfect personal development read for right now. It reminded me of Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F–k in that it’s ultimately about identifying what you want in your life and focusing your energy on those things.

There are 13 lessons to living a Lazy Genius life. A lot of it was stuff I’ve heard before b ut not everything. What resonated with me most right now was Lesson 4: Live in Your Season. This is about acknowledging what “season” of life you are in right now and not fighting it, to recognize the good things even if it sucks. Boy oh boy that hit home for me right now during COVID. Everyone is trying to figure out how the heck to live life in these conditions. I highly recommend this book!

Something I did off line this week.

I’ve been using the bike trainer a friend lent me to do indoor spinning with my old road bike. It’s not the same as going to a class but it’s a decent alternative.

Some things I’m grateful for this week.

  • The opportunities I have to get my writing published online
  • Getting texts from people when they’re thinking of me
  • Sharing books with people
  • That my friends who live places that have recently had severe storms and fires are all safe

Some things I’m looking forward to.

  • My book club meeting tomorrow
  • Football Sunday
  • Rain in the forecast to knock back some of the wild fire smoke in our valley

Now tell me something you are grateful for this week!

[…] may have noticed I didn’t post an update last Friday. Earlier in the week, I suddenly lost my young cat Marigold and was bogged down by grief all week. But I’m here now, posting today, to help me focus on […]
