Five Things Friday: July 30, 2021
Hello and welcome to the last Friday in July. This summer is flying by, isn’t it?!
Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to this week.
Something that made me happy this week:
I went swimming in an outdoor pool for the first time in many years. It was very hot and smokey due to wildfires, so I didn’t say long. I’m not a strong swimmer, but I love the mixture of cooling off in the water then warming up while reading poolside. My husband doesn’t love being out in the heat so I was prepared to go by myself but he went with me anyway and that made me really happy.

Something I read this week:
I’m currently reading Penny Reid‘s newest novel, Totally Folked. It’s the first in a new series that’s a spin-of of her Winston Brother series, which I absolutely adored. I find a lot of comfort in returning to a setting and characters I’ve visited in previous books. This read has been pure joy so far.
Something I did offline this week:
We went to visit my in-laws for a few days. This was the first time we’d seen them since February 2020. It was extremely hot there and the air quality was poor due to nearby wildfires so we had to stay inside most of the time. We watched the Olympics and worked on a puzzle. Other than the weather, we had a nice visit with my in-laws and the trip was surprisingly restorative for me.

Something I’m grateful for this week:
My mother-in-law. That might sound cheesy or cliche but I am incredibly grateful for my mother-in-law. I’ve been in her family for almost 12 years now and she never makes me feel anything less than part of the whole. She doesn’t judge me when I need space from the loud family or suggest trying things differently. She’s an incredible person and I’m lucky to have her.
Something I’m looking forward to:
Two of my book club friends will be stopping by this weekend as they pass through on a long drive. I’m excited to see them and discuss our latest group read in person instead of FaceTime!
