Five Things Friday: July 9, 2021
TGIF! It’s been a rough week over here. Our hot water heater broke on Tuesday, flooding our basement. That really threw a wrench in my plans for the week, since it was four days before we are leaving town. Thankfully, there wasn’t serious damage. Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to this week, besides dealing with that crisis!
Something that made me happy this week.
I recently joined a FaceBook group for people who create Dave Matthews Band inspired items. I saw these earrings last week and knew I had to have them. When I went to the seller’s Etsy shop, I saw this necklace with lyrics from my favorite DMB song and it tugged at my heart a little bit! The seller was incredibly kind and shipped the jewelry right away to be sure I’d have it in time for my trip. The pieces showed up this week and they’re even prettier than they looked online. I’m happy to be able to splurge occasionally on stuff like this and was touched by how nice the seller was.
Something I read this week.
This morning I finished The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris. I’d really been looking forward to this one and it was a bit of a dud. The first third was strong, I was immediately drawn into the story and rooting for our protagonist, Nella. I listened to the audiobook, and the multiple narrators did great jobs giving the characters personality. Then at about 30% in, the story started to drag. And drag. And then it got real weird and dragged some more. By the time we get some resolution at the end, I didn’t really care and I didn’t fully understand WTF was happening. I’m glad I finished, but I can’t say I’d recommend it.
Something I did offline this week.
My husband and I went to a motorcycle stunt show at our local Harley Davidson dealership. It was very hot and loud, but super fun to watch!
Something I’m grateful for this week.
Being able to watch fireworks from our front yard with my family on the 4th.
Something I’m looking forward to.
Taking a road trip to Seattle with my husband this weekend, for medical appointments next week.
What made you happy this week?
