Five Things Friday May 8, 2020

Hello and happy Friday! Although I’ll be honest, the days all blur together right now. I haven’t posted in a week, which is rare for me. I’ve been feeling low this week, more mentally than physically and couldn’t conjure up the emotional energy to post. I’m feeling better now and have some fun stuff planned for future posts.

So, here’s what I’ve been up to this week.

1. Some things that made me happy this week.

—-> I have tickets to see Vampire Weekend in August and it was officially cancelled this week. Seems funny to be happy about that, but it’s more of a relief. I’m glad I won’t have to stress over the decision of whether or not to go, and I’m grateful I’ll be getting a refund.

—-> I got a new electric bicycle. My husband bought himself a RadBike last spring and used it for his work commute. As of November he was working from home full time so not as much need for the bike. He suggested getting me one this year so we can take long scenic rides. Of course it’s been rainy all week, but we’ve managed to get out for a few short rides. It’s super fun and I can’t wait to spend more time on it when the weather is nicer.

2. Some things I read this week.

—->I’m currently reading Sarah Ramey’s powerful medical memoir, The Lady’s Handbook For Her Mysterious Illness and it’s blowing my mind. I too have a long history of being a medical mystery. To know there are so many women like us is mind boggling. This is my book club‘s selection for this month. Let me know if you’d like to be part of our Zoom discussion on May 30th.

—-> I finished The Winston Brothers Series I mentioned the past few weeks. Seriously, they’re so great and I can’t recommend them enough!
3. Some things I did offline this week.

—-> I’ve taken on my first ever furniture restoration project this week. My dad’s work desk has been in storage for several years and since I’ve always coveted it, he gave it to me. We finally moved it into my garage this week and I’ve done minor repairs, sanded, and stained it. It should be ready to go into my office this weekend. I can’t wait! There’s so much drawer space! Here it is after sanding, before staining.

—-> In an effort to reduce what my folks have in storage, I’ve also acquired my mom’s vintage vinyl record collection. I’ve started sorting and cataloging them and I’ve realized it’s going to be a BIG project. This is one box of several.

4. Some things I’m grateful for this week.

Having few obligations right now so I can take it easy when I need to.

Getting e-books and audio books from the library through Overdrive.

Leftovers

Rainbows

Streaming TV services

5. Some things I’m looking forward to.

Getting my desk finished and into my office.

Riding my new bike on sunny days.

My 5 year wedding anniversary is coming up next week.

Tell me a thing or two that made you happy this week!

Congrats on the new wheels! Those types of bikes literally make transportation a FUN activity. Also, regarding that refurbished desk, really well done. Legit, it looks seriously sweet. Lastly, regarding those records, that’s kind of a blessing & a curse, ya know? Our culture has gotten so spoiled when it comes to accessing music, so slowing down and appreciating the record listening experience can be a blessing & a curse at the same time! The music lover in me is jealous as hell, but you know this. Cheers!
